Welcome to
Norstead!
Norstead
is an ongoing experimental archeological project based on the
dreams of Norsa, which is a
Not For Profit organization which focuses on
Viking Age Living History.

While our group is based in the state of Missouri
(we have members in Columbia, Ft. Leonard Wood, Knox City, Kansas City and St Louis) we also have a few
members from as far away as Iowa and Nebraska.
We are
dedicated to presenting Viking Age history as accurately as
possible and in our efforts to do so we are actively involved in
on going research, living history, experimental archeology,
rebated steel combat and/or a combination of any of the above.
Members try to capture the lifestyle and
culture of the time and area - from warfare to housekeeping, from trade to
raiding, using authentic methods and techniques wherever possible. Our
skills and crafts include sewing, cooking, tablet weaving, embroidery,
leatherwork, woodworking, blacksmithing, casting, armouring, chain mail, as
well as the fighting displays of our warriors.
Members of Norsa portray
the occupants of Norstead, a Viking Age farm of a wealthy merchant based in
the city of Hedeby.
While any portrayal is
possible most of our members choose to portray household retainers but
it is not uncommon for members to adopt the roles of said merchants caravan guards or members of the local militia.
If this sounds like something you might be interested in come and join
us! If your interested in learning more about Norsa drop us an email
